Year 2 Overview

Quick links to some of Andy's Online Resources

The chemistry course taught by Andy in Year 2 is split into 10 distinct units. The units and teaching order are shown on the left.

Nearly all of the units you study in Year 2 use your knowledge and understanding from the Year 1 units. In addition, Year 2 covers the more difficult content of the A Level course.

Once again, you may find that some of the units come easy to you and that some units are more difficult. You might have a better understanding of why this may be the case with you, as you may have experienced this in Year 1. Work with your teachers to tackle the problems that are holding you back in each unit.

It's fast, it's furious, it's Year 2 A Level Chemistry!

West Lancashire College

The schedule of teaching for my classes in 2022 is shown in the tables in this section. Click on each image to expand. I will try to keep to the dates shown in the schedule but it is likely that they will move slightly. Just be aware that we will finish the course in plenty of time to start some meaningful revision in class and that you will be fully prepared for any external examinations at the end of the year.

As a year 2 chemistry student I expect you to be well on the way to becoming a confident and accomplished chemist. The pace in Year 2 will increase compared to Year 1 and I will use appropriate scientific terminology more regularly in class. I expect all of my students to do the same.

To achieve this you must ensure that you are reviewing your notes from year 1 and working on any gaps in your understanding. There will be no time in our Year 2 lessons to cover content from Year 1, it is up to you to work on any gaps from Year 1 in your own independent study time.

Remember, if you are struggling, always ask me for help.

Lab Book

You should ensure your lab book has all of the relevant information from your practical sessions. Remember, your lab book doesn't have to look perfect, it is a record of your work compiled in real time. For more information you can review the Required Practical section of the site.

Revision

You should have started revision last year in preparation for your Year 1 examinations. You should continue to revise throughout Year 2, i.e. you should never stop! If you haven't started yet, don't worry, just start as soon as you can, it just makes everyone's life much easier. For more information you can review the Revision section of the site.
